Not strictly required, but it's the gold standard signal. AWS SA Professional + 5+ years of practical experience is the most common profile for senior Cloud Architect roles.
Go deep on one — AWS for most companies (highest market share in India and US), GCP for data/ML-heavy companies, Azure for enterprise Microsoft shops. Multi-cloud breadth is less valuable than single-cloud depth at most companies.
Cloud Architects design the strategic infrastructure blueprint and govern standards. DevOps Engineers implement, operate, and automate that infrastructure. Senior DevOps engineers often grow into cloud architecture roles.
Show architectural decisions you owned: VPC design, multi-account strategy, data flow architecture, security design, or migration planning. The work matters more than the title.
